Fun Meals With A Vegetable Spiral Slicer

By vanyparty | March 13, 2010

How can you get more compliments out of your meals from your family? You can do this by using a vegetable spiral slicer. These little kitchen gadgets are so much fun. I can’t believe what I was missing out on all these years! I ordered a tri blade world cuisine paderno vegetable spiral slicer recently and I must say there has been an increase in vegetable eating from just wanting to use the slicer.

I always wondered how they made spirally carrot shreds or really cute garnishes in finger foods. It never occurred to me that an affordable gadget could make these wonderful, visually appealing raw foods to eat. Well, not too long ago I went into a restaurant that specialized in raw food. Now this may not be new to a lot of you, but they had zucchini pasta…and wait for the kicker…it was AMAZING! From that day I kept thinking about going on the internet to learn how they made the zuchinni pasta and turns out it is super easy not to mention really cheap.

The vegetable spiral slicer I’m happy to report was really cheap compared to what I thought it would cost, should you buy it online. I tried finding it in local stores and it was twice the price or even more. While looking around I noticed there are several out there that cost over five hundred dollars. These more expensive machines I’m assuming are for the more skilled chefs who will use this machine and torture it completely till its very last run. The quality of the plastic and steel on the slicer are most likely 10 times better then the less expensive models. I ended up finding a new slicer for a really reasonable price, around 30 bucks and seriously, it works good enough for me.

Now with every review unfortunately there are benefits and drawbacks.

Definitely the pros are that it is so fun to get a salad to not have the same old dull slices. It’s really fun to crank the handle on the spiral slicer to produce ribbons of spiral spaghetti sized curly strands to place with your meals out of pretty much any harder vegetables or fruits. I also like that it is so easy to change the blades and has a storage place integrated into the machine for the other sized blades. Also, clean up is easy. Those tedious days of cutting small pieces of vegetable for those delicate dishes are simple to accomplish with the vegetable spiral slicer.

Now some cons (and these are subjective) is that it isn’t the tiniest gadget. It’s not huge, but it’s not that small either which means you need a place for it to call home. Also there is some excess in the centre or core of the fruit or vegetable that doesn’t go through the spiral blades of the machine. If you are slicing up a carrot, it ultimately ends up looking like an over-sized carrot thumb tack you’ll have to find other creative ways to use it up. I wish the cylindrical core remover could possibly be replaced by something which is flat for vegetables that don’t require the core to come out.

Well, regardless, I’m now savoring zucchini spaghetti when I get on my raw food kicks and there is no deprivation or quantity of food or taste. I can have as many vegetables as I want in a fun small spiral shape that is so easy to eat. It might be childish but I really do need excitement at times to eat my veggies. The vegetable spiral slicer has definitely added a fun way for me to prepare meals in the kitchen and make things more interesting. It’s fantastic!
